Maya went on: "I’ve been a fan for years. It was the first reality show, other than Big Brother, that I made sure I was back at a certain time to watch and all my friends and family were speaking about.

"Everyone gets involved, everyone has opinions – from the older people in your family to the younger ones.

"It’s just fun, it’s fun to see how people play out in different situations and wonder what you would do if you were in the same position.

"Most of us have had a bit of a holiday romance before and it’s like watching that on telly."

What other TV shows has Maya Jama hosted?

Maya has been unstoppable throughout her career, starting in radio, which she left in 2020 to focus on her burgeoning TV career.

She has presented and co-presented tv shows, award shows, and radio and shows no signs of slowing down.

  • MOBO Awards – 2017 and 2020

Who else has hosted Love Island?

Since the revival of the show in 2015, there have been a few hosts of the hit TV show.

Caroline Flack hosted the show for five seasons until she passed away in 2020.

She was succeeded by Laura Whitmore, wife of Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, for seasons 6-8.

Her sudden exit from the show left the presenter spot up for grabs for a short while, speculation was rife as to who would bag the gig.

Bosses announced Maya Jama as the host of Love Island, a fact that was well received by Love Island fans everywhere.

Maya successfully hosted the winter 2023 edition of Love Island and will return as host for the summer 2023 instalment.
