Mr Campbell pulled the Shadow Justice Secretary up on his prolonged attack on Brexit. Mr Lammy claimed the fact Britain is no longer part of the European Union is a central cause of the HGV driver shortage that has sparked a petrol crisis in the UK.
Mr Lammy slammed: “I’m really clear Brexit is responsible for some of these shortages.
“They are not queuing for fuel in Spain, in Germany…
“But there are queues in our own country!
“And that is a result of exiting the EU!”
But Alastair Campbell slammed: “You guys voted for it!”
Mr Lammy hit back: “In the end, we can’t rehearse the issues around Brexit
“Why would drivers come here, when they have got to go through all the checks required now!
“As a consequence, that is what Brexit has done to us.”
