Brit man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after 'attacking girlfriend' and going on the run in Mexico | The Sun

A BRIT man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly attacking his girlfriend during a vicious row.

Police say the couple were arguing at an apartment in Benito Juarez, on the outskirts of Mexico City, before tensions boiled over.

The suspect has been named locally – only by his first name and the first initial of his surname – as Morris N.

He was hunted down by cops following the violent incident that is said to have occurred on August 18 at a property in Extremadura Insurgentes.

Detectives are said to have sought an arrest warrant from a judge after discovering his whereabouts.

Police investigating the case held him in Cuernavaca, just over an hour’s drive south.

He is now being held at a remand prison, named as Varonil Norte, in Mexico City.

Several local papers claim the woman who was allegedly assaulted died as a result of her injuries.

But prosecutors revealed in a statement yesterday that the suspect had been arrested for a "possible crime of attempted femicide".

Reports of the victim's death do not yet appear to have been confirmed locally by officials.

"Investigations show that after a probable row, the individual possibly physically assaulted a woman inside a residential property in Extremadura Insurgentes in the borough of Benito Juarez.

"It was discovered the suspect had fled to the municipality of Cuernavaca in Morelos with the aim of evading justice and prosecution investigators applied for an arrest warrant from a judge.
