British holidaymaker is raped in Majorca after ‘her drink was spiked’ – and wakes up without her underwear in wrong hotel
- French tourist arrested on suspicion of raping British holidaymaker
A French tourist has been arrested on suspicion of raping a British holidaymaker who told police in Majorca she feared her drink had been spiked during a night out.
The woman underwent tests in hospital so detectives could try to find out if she had been drugged after she woke up the following day minus her underwear in a hotel that wasn’t hers.
She told cops she remembered nothing after beers with a group of other holidaymakers she had got chatting to in a bar.
Police described her as ‘semi-conscious’ when she was taken to hospital after raising the alarm.
The arrest happened on Monday after a woman’s belongings were found in the room where the alleged sex attack took place.
The man held is one of the group of four tourists she met on a night out in the Majorcan capital Palma last Saturday.

A spokesman for the National Police in the Balearic Islands confirmed. ‘On Monday officers arrested a 36-year-old French tourist on suspicion of sexually attacking a tourist.
‘The young woman had gone for a drink in the area by the bullring in Palma on Saturday night and met four holidaymakers.
‘She got into a conversation and they had a couple of beers.
‘From that moment on she doesn’t remember anything, only that she woke up the following day at 8.30am in another hotel which wasn’t her one, dressed but without her underwear on.
‘She went to reception to seek help as she was disorientated and didn’t know what had happened.
‘A receptionist alerted police who dispatched officers and activated a protocol for cases like this.
‘The woman was taken to hospital where a series of tests, including toxicology tests, were performed to obtain as much information as possible.’
Saying officers from a unit called UFAM who specialise in probing crimes of sexual violence were put in charge of the investigation, the force added: ‘They established that the woman had been deprived of her faculties, was semi-conscious and had poor psychomotricity [coordination] and had vomited.
‘On Monday they found a rucksack with a woman’s belongings in the room where the sex attack is believed to have taken place.
‘At that point the suspected author of the crime was arrested. He is one of the people she met in the bar.’
Well-placed sources described the woman, whose age is not known, as a British tourist.

It was not immediately clear today what the tests had detected and whether the suspect had been remanded in custody after appearing in court or released on bail pending an ongoing investigation.
The latest detention follows a number of rape arrests in Majorca over the summer.
The most high-profile were those of five French and one Swiss tourist in the early hours of August 14 at the BH Mallorca Resort in Magaluf following the alleged gang-rape of a a British 18-year-old. They were all remanded in prison by an investigating judge leading an ongoing probe.
Two more suspects were subsequently held in France on European Arrest Warrants so they could be extradited to Spain.
Less than a fortnight later, three British holidaymakers were arrested on suspicion of raping a woman at another Magaluf hotel.
The trio were held as they tried to board a flight to Manchester.
The woman who raised the alarm, who well-placed sources said at the time was also British, had claimed she may have been drugged.
Last Friday National Police officers in Majorca arrested two British men over the alleged rape of a third.
They met up at a hotel in the east-coast tourist resort of Cales de Mallorca after chatting on gay dating app Grindr.
Police said the alleged rape victim told his suspected aggressors he wanted ‘company and demonstrations of affection’ after going to their hotel room but no more than that.
He ended up in hospital needing stitches.
