'Headless body' found in woods as forensic officers flood to quiet town and cops probe 'unexplained' death

A "HEADLESS" body has been found in woodland as police officers launched a probe into the "unexplained" death.

Police, fire and ambulance emergency services raced to the scene after the grim discovery in Salcombe, Devon on Sunday.


A police source told DevonLive the body was found without a head.

A huge police and fire service presence remains in the holiday town two days after the horrific discovery.

Bennett Road is closed at both ends and a Special Ops police tent has been erected near to the woods.

A police forensic team is continuing its investigation.

'UNEXPLAINED DEATH'

Cops were were called around 5pm on Sunday after a call from a member of the public.

The woods where the body was found are popular with dog walkers.

Tourists and locals told DevonLive a heavy police presence had been inthe area since Sunday afternoon.

One holidaymaker said: “The police have been all over Cliff Road and around woods."

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Enquiries remain ongoing into an unexplained death after a body was found in a wooded area near Bennett Road, Salcombe, on Sunday June 27.

“A number of enquiries will be carried out in Salcombe over the coming days, and it is likely that the local community will continue to see a high level of police activity.
