As The Mail on Sunday reported last month, Rayner, the 41-year-old MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, kicked out at the Tories during the Labour Party conference, branding them ‘homophobic, racist, misogynist scum’.
Unveiling the statue in Blackburn yesterday alongside Labour’s former Home Secretary Jack Straw, an unrepentant Ms Rayner vowed ‘to always be outspoken’ like Baroness Castle and said she was proud to follow ‘the ginger Northerner’.
‘It’s people like Barbara who inspired me to say what you mean and mean what you say and always be true to the people that elect you,’ said the Labour frontbencher, standing several inches taller than Mr Straw.
