A couple who built a makeshift veranda in their back garden which made their neighbours so angry they moved out without telling them.

Alexandra Adams and her husband Cev had been on friendly terms with the people living next door to their South London home.

But when finance analyst Cev decided to build a ‘massive’ veranda in their back garden, the relationship between the two households changed.

Instead of saying hello and smiling at each other, Alexandra says they suddenly stopped and the pair, who are both 43, ‘never saw them’.

Alexandra claims they began to do ‘weird things’ such as vacuuming at unsociable hours and even going indoors when Cev and Alexandra went outside.

This culminated with their neighbours suddenly moving out without telling them, The Sun reports.

‘It seemed they were making a point,’ Alexandra told the paper.

Alexandra, who works as a property manager, said the veranda was ‘very visible’ from their back garden and had been put up very quickly by her husband.

Alexandra admitted the ‘very visible’ veranda (pictured) could be seen from their neighbour’s property

‘It was massive, not a delicate little thing, and right up against the boundary between us and next door,’ she said.

‘He’s Turkish and over there every home has a veranda in the garden, so he just wanted the same for our home.’

She said it seemed like this led to a change in their neighbour’s behaviour, who no longer exchanged pleasantries with them.

Alexandra said: ‘If we went out in the garden, they would go inside. Sometimes, I could swear I heard tutting from their side of the fence. It felt very awkward.

‘But it’s our garden and surely our business what we put in it.’

Things finally came to a bizarre conclusion in March this year, when Alexandra gave birth to a baby girl called Lara.

‘That very same week, the couple moved out, without even telling us,’ she said.

Alexandra added that she and Cev aren’t party animals ‘so can’t see what they were upset about’.
