Bride and doom! Newlyweds looking for the perfect photo to mark their special day have to be rescued by a lifeboat after becoming STRANDED on picturesque Scottish island by the tide

  • Bride Shaniya Hirani, 36, had to clamber into the RNLI lifeboat in her white gown
  • She and her new husband Sohil, 36, were with a photographer and camera crew
  • They failed to realise Sully Island off the coast of the Vale of Glamorgan is tidal
  • Ms Hirani said it hadn’t ruined the day but ‘made the whole day so memorable’

A bride and groom looking for the perfect wedding shot were stranded on an island by the tide – and had to be rescued by lifeboat.

Bride Shaniya Hirani, 36, had to clamber into the RNLI lifeboat in her white gown, veil and high heels in the wedding day drama.

The couple had walked the 400 metres with photographer and camera crew for the perfect Insta-worthy shot on the sun-kissed island.

But the wedding party failed to realise that Sully Island off the coast of the Vale of Glamorgan is tidal – and they were cut off by the rising waters.

Ms Hirani and her new husband Sohil, 36, were left all at sea when their wedding shoot went wrong.

And the RNLI had to send a lifeboat out to rescue the couple – although they got some memorable photos in the process.

The RNLI had to send a lifeboat out to rescue the couple – although they got some memorable photos in the process.

The three-strong lifeboat crew soon arrived – and Shaniya said they had a good sense of humour about it

Ms Hirani said: ‘We headed across – me in my high heels – and actually missed three or four signs saying ‘DANGER’ because we were so excited.

‘We got a few really good shots then the photographer looked back and said we had to go.

‘We could see the pathway was covered in water so we thought we had no option but to cross it.

‘As we got closer to the pathway, some guy across the shore shouted not to attempt to cross because it was too dangerous.’

The pair were having their reception with friends and family at the Captain’s Wife pub overlooking the former Viking island.

So they decided the stunning island was perfect for wedding snap in their finery – and crossed for the hour-long photoshoot.

But when they headed down to the end of Sully Island with a photographer and videographer to get a final picture, they realised there was no way back.

Sully Island is accessible by land at low tide but is totally cut off when the tide comes in.

The three-strong lifeboat crew soon arrived – and Shaniya said they had a good sense of humour about it.

She said: ‘As soon as they got there, they were like: ‘Congratulations, this is a first, we’ve never had to rescue a bridal party before!’

‘They were laughing and joking with us the whole day, it probably made their day to be honest! They were absolutely amazing about the whole thing, even trying their hardest not to get my outfit dirty.

‘One lifeguard also offered to give me a piggyback from the boat to shore so my outfit didn’t get dirty. Everyone applauded that.’

Ms Hirani was born and raised in south Wales but moved away to London 17 years ago.

But getting stranded on the Sully beach didn’t ruin her homecoming wedding day – she said: ‘It’s made the whole day so memorable.

‘The whole of the pub and the surrounding restaurants were all watching. We had really loud applause from everyone because we’d been their entertainment for the last half an hour or so.’
