  • The Obama’s traditional trip to Hawaii over the holidays come as most of the rest of the United States reeling from the ferocious winter storm, with at least 57 deaths reported in across the country

Sasha and Malia Obama were seen handing out blankets and food to the homeless, less than a half mile from their father’s new multi-million dollar beachfront home in Oahu on Tuesday.

The area where he built the mansion has traditionally been an area where mainly native Hawaiians have lived. But gentrification and homes such as the one Obama built it is pushing the locals out and onto the streets.

Hawaii has no cap on property tax and when homes like his are built it pushes the taxes of surrounding homes up and many local families simply can’t afford to live there any longer.

In pictures obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com, Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21, can be seen smiling, while carrying food, including cookies, as well as blankets to members of the local homeless community.

Malia can be seen in our pictures wearing a short light blue dress with a pair of black sneakers. The former president’s eldest daughter had two tote bags slung over her shoulder and had a black bandana with a flame pattern under her sunglasses covering her chestnut locks

The former first daughter’s hot-air balloon tattoo was visible for the world to see. Famously, her father joked in 2013: ”What we’ve said is, “If you guys ever decided you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo, in the same place. And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo.'” However, recently Michelle Obama said that the parents have become more accepting of body art.

In 2015, the Obama family attracted controversy when they built an $8.7million mansion on the island of Oahu, despite the protests of environmentalists and native Hawaiians. Despite being purchased in 2015, it was reported in February of this year that the mansion was finally nearing completion.

The beachfront house attracted controversy after a seawall was found on the property which environmentalists believe is aiding erosion.

The family also own a similarly sized mansion on Martha’s Vineyard that set them back $11.75 million in 2019.

Earlier this week, the girl’s father, the 44th president of the United States, was pictured playing a round of golf in a pink shirt, white shorts and a pair of sunglasses in Oahu. The former president’s children or wife were not pictured with him out on the range.

While he was president, Obama enjoyed around 300 rounds of golf. That number was later surpassed by his successor, Donald Trump.

On Christmas Day, Obama posted a rare throwback photo of his wife and daughters together. He wrote in the caption: ‘Merry Christmas, everybody! One of the best parts of the holiday season is getting to spend time with the special people in our lives. I hope you all have a wonderful and joyful Christmas.’

Michelle Obama, who is promoting her book ‘The Light We Carry,’ spoke about spending the holidays in paradise during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

When Kimmel asked the former First Lady if she enjoyed spending time in Hawaii, she said: ”Uh duh… That’s why I married Barack. He was from Hawaii,’ Michelle, 58, joked. ‘I was like, “Yeah, you’re kind of cute, ears are a little big… And you’re from where? I think I love you.”‘

The 44th president was born in Honolulu and spent most of his adolescence living in the state’s capital with maternal grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Dunham, whom he lovingly called Toot and Gramps.

Michelle recalled how Barack had invited her to come to Hawaii and spend Christmas with him and his family after they ‘officially started dating.’

‘I was a second-year associate at a law firm in Chicago. Winters in Chicago are deadly dreary,’ she noted. ‘So the thought of leaving my family — who I love — and going to spend Christmas with the love of my life in Hawaii? I was like, “Sign me up.”‘

She had never been to Hawaii before, but she thought it would be comparable to what she had seen on The Brady Bunch episodes that were filmed on the island of Oahu.

Spending Christmas in Hawaii has become an annual tradition for the Obamas, who have been going there since their daughters Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21, were born.

She recalled how her children would have two Christmases because Santa would leave presents for them in both Hawaii and their home in Chicago.

‘I am a Christmas mother. We did it all,’ she said of taking her daughters to see Santa Claus at the Ala Moana mall in Honolulu. ‘It’s a different Santa. It’s a beach Santa, not as chubby… But that’s what they know Christmas to be.’

While most of her dating life remains mysterious, Malia has been recently linked to record producer Dawit Eklund

Fordham Avenue, center, and the 1901 Pan-American Exposition neighborhood of Buffalo, N.Y. is coated in a blanket of snow after the blizzard

As the Obama’s enjoy the temperate Hawaiian weather, on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe’s reservation in South Dakota, snowmobiles were being dispatched Tuesday to reach residents after food boxes were delivered by helicopter and trucks over the weekend, the tribe said. Ohio officials assessed the water damage in the Statehouse after a pipe burst amid the freezing weather that accompanied and followed the storm.

Even in central Florida, temperatures plunged as low as 27 degrees (minus 2.7 Celsius) over the weekend. Growers’ groups were relieved Tuesday not to find widespread damage to the fruit and vegetable crops that supply much of the U.S. with fresh winter produce.

In Buffalo, the dead were found in cars, homes and snowbanks. Some perished while shoveling snow, others when emergency crews could not respond in time to medical crises. Poloncarz, a Democrat, called the blizzard “the worst storm probably in our lifetime,” even for an area known for heavy snow. More bodies are expected to be found as the snow is cleared or melts.

The winter blast stranded some people in cars for days, shuttered the city’s airport and left some residents shivering without heat. More than 4,000 homes and businesses were still without power late Tuesday morning.

President Joe Biden offered federal assistance Monday to New York, allowing for reimbursement of some storm-relief efforts. Gov. Kathy Hochul toured the aftermath in Buffalo, her hometown, and called the blizzard “one for the ages.” Almost every fire truck in the city became stranded Saturday, she said.

Hochul, a Democrat, noted the storm came a little over a month after the region was inundated with another historic snowfall. Between the two storms, snowfall totals are not far off from the 95.4 inches (242 centimeters) the area normally sees in an entire winter season.

The National Weather Service said the snow total at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport stood at 49.2 inches at 10 a.m. Monday. Officials said the airport will be shut through Wednesday morning.

Roughly 3,000 domestic and international U.S. flights were canceled Tuesday as of about 2 p.m. Eastern time, according to the tracking site FlightAware.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said it will look into Southwest Airlines flight cancellations that left travelers stranded at airports across the country amid the winter storm. Many airlines were forced to call off flights, but Southwest was by far the leader.
