Thieving great-gran says she went on a FIVE-year shoplifting spree because she was 'bored' and wanted to 'get out of Crewe'

A GREAT-GRAN began a five-year shoplifting spree because she was bored.

June Humphreys, 79, has a criminal record “like a teenage heroin addict” after clocking up her 39th theft offence.

A court heard she started thieving in her 70s to get out of her home in Crewe, Cheshire.

Humphreys travelled on her free bus pass to swipe hundreds of pounds of goods and hide them in her trolley.

She was nabbed most recently for stealing stationery, nappies and baby milk in Stafford on December 12.

Humphreys told cops: “I’m bored. I just wanted to get out of Crewe.”

Magistrates in Cannock, Staffs, heard she is in touch with only one of her seven children.

She admitted two counts of theft and was fined £80, with £165 in costs and surcharges.

Her probation officer Darren Vernon told the court at a past hearing: “She has travelled around Staffordshire and Cheshire on public transport and committed offences.

“She knows what she is doing is wrong, she says she is bored and needs to fill her time.
