Alexandra Burke, 32, is among a new host of celebrities set to take the plunge on all new Great British Bake Off, in aid of Stand Up to Cancer. As per usual, it wasn’t all plain sailing but the cakes weren’t the only thing prone to disaster.

Even Paul was trying to help fend them off

In a recent interview, the former X Factor winner opened up on how she had to be saved by Paul Hollywood, after she was attacked by a swarm of wasps.

“I had what I call ‘waspgate’,” she giggled, looking back at her time in the famous tent.

“I was positioned towards the back of the tent and I was getting attacked by wasps all the time.

“It was really funny because I couldn’t get rid of them – even Paul was trying to help fend them off!” she laughed.

“In the end I just had to live with it!”

A self-confessed “super-fan” of the show, Alexandra finally decided to put her at home baking skills to the test, all in the name of charity.

“When I got to the tent, I probably annoyed everyone because I kept on taking pictures,” she giggled.

But the fun soon turned serious as she revealed she was terrified of Paul and Prue Leith’s critiques, and admitted she can get quite competitive.

“Oh my goodness, I was more anxious than when I go on stage!” she confessed sheepishly.

“I have so much respect for them, and I just wanted to impress them as much as I could.”

She added that she was pleased she has walked away with baking tips that she’ll treasure forever, and thoroughly enjoyed learning how to avoid that dreaded soggy bottom.

“It was an amazing experience,” the 32-year-old continued to tell Radio Times.
