Antiques Roadshow star gets candid about life expectancy with incurable tumour

Antiques Roadshow expert Theo Burrell desperately tried to avoid assigning a number to the rest of her life, but had to come to terms with her incurable diagnosis when she accidentally came across her “short” life expectancy.

Theo Burrell candidly opened up about her decision to not be given a prognosis after doctors found her incurable grade four brain tumour.

Although the Antiques Roadshow star has undergone treatments and surgeries to shrink her tumour, she has been told: “My tumour will return and it will kill me.”

Speaking to The Sun, the 36-year-old explained that she was worried she would solely focus on the number rather than enjoying her life and couldn’t see a happy outcome with a life expectancy hanging over her.

She shared: “If I died before that number I was going to feel upset that I hadn’t made it to where I was supposed to.

“If I died long after that number I would have felt frustrated that I had lived my life according to an arbitrary number.

“If I died exactly as they said then what difference does it make.”

Despite trying to avoid the numbers, the mum-of-one accidentally came across it, which shocked her when she saw “how short it was”.

The BBC star previously admitted she is surprised to still be alive, as the average survival rate for glioblastoma patients is 12 to 18 months, with only five percent of patients living more than five years after their diagnosis.

Although she has been trying to avoid living by the numbers, Theo can’t help but question her mortality especially when it comes to moments with her toddler Jonah and partner Alex Leaver.

She heartbreakingly recalled: “When I first got out of hospital it was hard. I would be sitting in his room reading a bedtime story thinking; ‘How many more bedtime stories do I have left?’.”

While she’s still too unwell to return to Antiques Roadshow, the star is hopeful that she has many more bedtime stories left.

Theo’s also incredibly grateful that she was able to welcome her son before getting diagnosed, as it gives her some comfort knowing Jonah and Alex will be there for each other once she is gone.
