Lorraine Kelly offered her support to Rosie Jones, who has cerebral palsy, after the comic called out the vile abuse she received on social media. The actress appeared on the panel for Question Time alongside education secretary Nadhim Zahawi, shadow foreign secretary Lisa Nandy, LBC’s Nick Ferrari and NFU president Minette Batters, to discuss pressing issues in the news last night.
Speaking on the BBC programme, Rosie addressed Boris Johnson’s party conference speech, when she said the Prime Minister spoke a lot but “I didn’t hear anything”.
She has since taken to Twitter to share how she has received a torrent of abuse on social media.
“The sad thing is that I’m not surprised at the ableist abuse I’ve received tonight regarding my appearance on Question Time,” Rosie penned in view of her 133,000 followers.
“It’s indicative of the country we live in right now. I will keep on speaking up, in my wonderful voice, for what I believe in.”
Taking to the micro-blogging site, Lorraine, 61, fumed over the abuse Rosie has suffered.
In view of her 658,000 followers, she penned: “Hello gorgeous – you were (as always) brilliant on #questiontime – b******* to anyone who says otherwise. Love you.”
The ITV presenter was not alone in offering some kind words to her fellow presenter.
Richard Osman wrote: “Rosie, you’re changing the world for the better. Which is a gig you didn’t apply for, but there you are, up on the stage. Very proud to know you.”
Labour MP Lisa Nandy agreed: “I had the pleasure to meet @josierones last night. She talked so much sense on #BBCQT and the audience really appreciated it. Waking up to see this social media abuse is vile. Solidarity Rosie.”
Other viewers were also quick to defend the Question Time panel member.
“Rosie you were great tonight and the studio guests agreed and applauded you, you looked good, got your point of view across which is what most of us think. You are an absolute star, thank you for holding government to account, bravo,” Lynda Hall remarked.
Jill Pay said: “I actually watched #bbcqt because you were on the panel and I knew you would make excellent points – which you did. Especially your ‘analysis’ of Johnson’s speech – spot on. Keep on keeping on Rosie.”
