Catherine Tyldesley reveals her oestrogen ‘dipped badly’ after ‘excessive exercise’ on Strictly

Catherine Tyldesley has revealed that her oestrogen levels 'dipped really badly' after she starred on Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Coronation Street star, 38, who recently shared an insight into her weight loss journey as she admitted that her biggest motivation was 'staying alive', has given an insight into her fluctuating hormone levels over the past few years.

Catherine, who is mum to son Alfie, six, and is expecting a second child, a baby girl, with husband Tom Pitfield, described how her oestrogen levels plummeted after she competed on the BBC show in 2019 with her professional dance partner Johannes Radebe.

Speaking on the MadeByMammas podcast with Heart Radio presenter Zoe Hardman and Georgia Dayton, Catherine said: "Over the past few years I have had a nightmare with my hormones – really bad.

"After Strictly [Come Dancing] because of the excessive exercise, my oestrogen dipped really badly and I started to experience migraines with aura so I would lose my vision."

She continued: "I knew straightaway because it also happened when I was breastfeeding Alfie and it actually forced me to stop breastfeeding and I loved breastfeeding but when you have got a newborn and you can't see properly it was just…

"I knew, I thought my oestrogen has dipped and then they put me on HRT I suppose but the natural gel that is made from yams which is brilliant for some women but for me it was a nightmare.

"I ballooned, my body thought I was pregnant almost. I was displaying all the symptoms of pregnancy including morning sickness and then my oestrogen was dangerously high. So it was just all over the place."

Catherine revealed how she had an IUS fitted, a T-shaped plastic device that is inserted into the womb and releases the hormone progestogen, after she suffered 'really badly' with her periods but was 'convinced' she was pregnant as her body was displaying signs.

She explained: "I said to Tom I am going to take the coil out and see what my body does naturally – I don't think I am going to fall pregnant because we have had such a nightmare with hormones and I fell pregnant straightaway! The first month!"

It comes after Catherine, who announced her pregnancy news in October, described on Instagram how she feels 'utterly blessed' to be expecting a second child due in April.

The brunette beauty penned: "I can’t tell you how utterly blessed we feel right now. We are so happy to announce that @tompitfieldphotography, Alfie and I are expecting a baby.

"It’s been tough keeping this a secret let me tell you!!"
