Drake alludes to possible 'graceful exit' from music industry

Drake alludes to ‘graceful exit’ from music industry as he says he no longer wants to ‘compete’: ‘I would love to just see what the next generation does’

Drake alluded to a future ‘graceful exit’ from the music industry during a new interview with rapper Lil Yachty.

The 36-year-old Hotline Bling rapper mentioned that he was starting to consider a graceful exit though he didn’t give a timetable for such an exit.

‘Well, I think on a broader scale, I think I’m at the point now where I just wanna — I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day — but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,’ he told the 25-year-old Broccoli rapper.

The interview, posted to Yachty’s YouTube channel, continued with Drake adding, ‘I feel like a lot of people that I’ve watched as the years have gone on, it’s a really addictive competitive space. Oftentimes you’re addicted to the competition itself.’

When asked if he’s already ready for retirement, the Degrassi: The Next Generation actor was quick to shut that speculation down.

‘I’m not ready now, but to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely interesting and hopefully cherished by people, and then to find the right time to say, “I can’t wait to see what the next generation does,”‘ he explained.

‘I’ll still be around to work with people or do a show here or there, but I’m not going to force myself to compete,’ Drake added. ‘I would love to just see what the next generation does, whenever that time is. So, I guess that’s the one thing that I want for myself really badly.’

Drake last came out with a full-length album last year titled Her Loss. The collaborative album was made with 21 Savage.

The One Dance rapper stayed busy last year, also releasing a solo album titled Honestly, Nevermind.

Even if he decides to walk away from the music industry, Drake has a number of other projects outside of it to work on.

The Ice Age: Continental Drift actor has recently expanded his interests into film and television producing. He serves as an executive producer on the hit show Euphoria and produced the Christian Bale movie Amsterdam which came out last year.

He has a pair of projects currently in the works. The movie Sprial ‘follows a former influencer whose addiction to social media is causing her body to literally fall apart,’ according to its IMDb page.
