EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Royal favourite dies suddenly after split from his Bond girl wife

Radio 4 Today’s former editor Sarah Sands has suffered a double tragedy.

Amid an ongoing search for her ex-husband, the actor Julian Sands, who went missing last month while hiking in California, her beloved brother, Kit Hesketh-Harvey, died suddenly yesterday. The cabaret star, lyricist and pantomime baddie was 65.

‘Kit was dazzling — clever, original, funny, kind,’ Sands says. ‘The last time I saw him he was busy mapping out pilgrim routes across Norfolk; there was always the next adventure, the next joke. He gave and gave and gave.’

His brother-in-law, the Daily Mail’s Travel Editor Mark Palmer, adds: ‘He was the most brilliant, witty, gentle and talented man I have ever known, deeply loved by everyone — including King Charles, for whom he used to perform.’

Kit Hesketh-Harvey was married to Kate Rabett, a Bond girl, Hot Gossip dancer and ex-girlfriend of Prince Andrew

Hesketh-Harvey starred with Stephen Fry in ‘The Story of James Bond: A Tribute to Ian Fleming’ at London’s The Paladium theatre in 2008

He wrote the screenplay for director James Ivory’s 1987 film Maurice, which starred Hugh Grant, and was a scriptwriter for shows including The Vicar Of Dibley. With pianist Richard Sisson, he also formed the cabaret double-act Kit And The Widow.

Hesketh-Harvey was married to Kate Rabett, a Bond girl, Hot Gossip dancer and ex-girlfriend of Prince Andrew, until the former couple’s recent, acrimonious divorce. The couple (pictured), who had two children, shared a three-storey Georgian rectory in a Norfolk village for 35 years.

Kit moved into the vestry of the church he owned, across the road from their marital home. The pressures of the pandemic are said to have forced Rabett, 62, to choose between her husband and Ian Harrison, an Old Etonian financier to whom she had become close.

Amelia takes the crown as thriftiest Windsor

Thrifty royal Lady Amelia Windsor walks in the street before visiting Oxfam charity shop wearing a monogrammed Burberry backpack

Once hailed as the ‘most beautiful member of the Royal Family’ by Tatler magazine, Lady Amelia Windsor is now staking a claim for being the thriftiest.

The Duke of Kent’s granddaughter, 27, was spotted visiting an Oxfam branch near the West London flat she shares with her 30-year-old sister, Lady Marina.

‘You don’t expect to bump into a member of the Royal Family at Oxfam,’ remarks one fellow shopper, seemingly unaware that thrift shops are now the height of fashion.

Lady Amelia (left) appears to be happy to splash the cash, too. The Ash Addict trainers she was wearing cost £235, her Hunter puffer jacket was £200, and her personalised Burberry rucksack, complete with her initials, would have cost around £1,000.

She regularly voices conspiracy theories about Prince Andrew’s accuser Virginia Giuffre, yet Lady Victoria Hervey has been thanked by his elder daughter for her backing. ‘I saw Princess Beatrice at the Lady Garden Gala and she said, “Thank you for all your support for my father and for all the work you’ve been doing,” ’ Lady Victoria tells me at the launch of the London Regenerative Institute at the Corinthia Hotel. The Marquess of Bristol’s sister often claims that the photograph of Andrew with his arm around Virginia, then 17, is fake. This allegation was debunked by the Mail on Sunday last weekend.

The 38-year-old shared this photograph of herself in a black, feathered dress, as she prepares to star as Anna Leonowens in a touring version of The King And I. She says: ‘Theatre is my first love, and I am so excited to be returning to the stage for this beautiful, majestic production.’

Helen has two children with boyfriend Jack Ashton, 38, whom she met when he joined the cast of the popular Sunday night drama Call The Midwife, as the Rev Tom Hereward.

Melissa rejoices after IVF success

TV chef and author Melissa Hemsley, 37, is expecting her first child with her boyfriend, art curator Henry Relph

Having spoken candidly about the miscarriages she suffered, Melissa Hemsley has some joyful news.

The TV chef and author, 37, is expecting her first child with her boyfriend, art curator Henry Relph (pictured), 39, following IVF. ‘I’ve heard many times that it takes a village to raise a child,’ Melissa says. ‘I didn’t realise that sometimes it takes a village to make a child.

‘We are eternally grateful for the support we’ve experienced over the past two years.’

She happily accepted a damehood and took part in Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant last summer, but former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips appears to have lost her enthusiasm for the monarchy. ‘A fan [of the Royal Family]?’ she comments at the first night of The Cher Show at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London. ‘I don’t think I’m a fan of anyone. I’m not a royalist.’

Podcaster Giovanna Fletcher, a royal favourite who attended the launch of the Princess of Wales’s long-term campaign to support the early development of children, has notched up £1 million in profits at her media company. Accounts published on Tuesday for Giovanna Fletcher Ltd disclose that its coffers were boosted by £297,000 in the year to last April, taking its total assets to nearly £954,000. The former I’m A Celebrity winner, 38, has boosted her income with a Made In Italy ITV show on top of her writing and podcasting career.
