Gabrielle Union Says She Splits the Bills "50/50" With Husband Dwyane Wade

Even as a celebrity, Gabrielle Union still experiences financial anxiety. In an interview for Bloomberg’s Idea Generation series, the 50-year-old actor and entrepreneur opened up about supporting her family, explaining how financial responsibilities are divided between her and husband Dwyane Wade. “It’s weird to say I’m head of household, because in this household, we split everything 50/50,” she said. “But in the other households that each of us have to support, there’s always this gorilla on your back that is like, ‘You better work b*tch! You better work! You want to sleep in? Somebody might not eat.’ And it’s hard.”

Union shares a 4-year-old daughter named Kaavia with former NBA player Wade, and is also the stepmother to Wade’s three children from his previous marriage: Zaire, 21, Zaya, 15, and Xavier, 9. Wade also has full custody of his 21-year-old nephew, Dahveon, who he’s raised as one of his own. As Union detailed in her interview, she works with Wade to provide for the entire family, but it’s still difficult to relinquish some of that stress.

“I think I just have more responsibilities for my money,” she said. “I get nervous. Like, ‘Oh, God, that movie didn’t open. Well, what does that mean? Am I going to have enough to hold everybody up?'” She said she’s now working on finding motivation that doesn’t stem entirely from fear. So far, she’s found some success from therapy and vision boarding, but it’s still a work in progress. “I’m trying to find peace in the journey, not using my anxiety and scarcity mindset to be my engine, which is hard.”

After seeing the response that her quotes garnered on Twitter, Union posted a video on Instagram with Wade, referencing the interview in her caption. “I love when he matches my energy, 50/50 over here,” she wrote. Watch the full interview above.
