Martin Freeman, 50, has revealed he will “always love” his ex-partner of 16 years, Amanda Abbington, 47. The pair were together from 2000 to 2016 before they split, and share two children together, Joe and Grace.

They met on the set of 2000’s Men Only, and went on to star in more TV shows together, such as The Robinsons and the BBC adaptation of Sherlock, where they played husband and wife duo, Dr Watson and Mary.
They have rarely spoken about their split, but it is believed that Martin filming in the US, including for the Marvel film Black Panther, was, among other things, a reason contributing to their split.
When The Office star announced their break-up during an interview with the Financial Times, he said: “I’m not with Amanda anymore.
“It’s very, very amicable — I’ll always love Amanda.”
Since they parted ways five years ago, they have both found love elsewhere.
Martin is now dating 29-year-old French actress, scriptwriter and producer Rachel Mariam.
Their relationship was seemingly confirmed in 2020, and they have often been pictured together at events like the Raindance Film Festival in October 2021.
Rachel, who is from Toulouse but now based in London, has also shared sweet snaps of them on her social media.
She has starred in the popular BBC Three series Normal People, This Way Up and is set to feature in upcoming series Citadel starring Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci, and in Murder in Provence alongside Keala Settle.
Last year, Amanda got engaged to her stuntman fiancé, Jonathan Goodwin, who shot to fame after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2019.
He confirmed the couple are to be wed after he suffered a horrifying accident during filming of America’s Got Talent: Extreme edition, in which he was sandwiched between two vehicles that exploded.
He described Amanda as “the best thing to ever happen to me” in a sweet tribute post after his accident.
But despite being no longer together, Amanda and Martin have remained friends.
Last year, she spoke as part of a mental health campaign saying that she believes the split has “damaged” their children.
She said at the time: “I’m sure I’ve given them irreparable damage and they will be going to therapy because of me and Martin at some point.”
The actress went on to recall that both she and Martin are encouraging the children to talk openly about their mental health.
In her most candid interview to date, Amanda discussed the “darkness” she felt as she continued to put on a brave face at home in front of their kids.
“I had thought Martin was the love of my life. This wasn’t meant to happen to us,” she admitted to Red Magazine.
“I would wake every morning with a sudden lurch: ‘Why do I feel sick?’ I’d ask myself, in the darkness of the bedroom I no longer shared with my partner.
“And then, a split-second later, I’d remember what had happened, ‘Oh,’ I thought, as the tears started to fall, ‘That’s why.'”
She added: “It was one of the darkest moments of my life but, although I didn’t know it then, it was also to mark the beginning of an extraordinary journey of self-discovery. It’s still hard.
“I still have massive wobbles but that’s understandable, I think.”
When asked about their current situation as co-parents, Amanda revealed: “We still love each other – even if we’re not in love with each other – and neither of us sees our relationship as a failure.
“We had 16 great years together and have two fantastic kids. We still talk and we still give each other advice.”
