Prince William praises Prince Philip for kindness he showed Kate Middleton when joining Royal family

After the tragic death of Prince Philip on Friday 9 March, his grandson Prince William has shared a tribute to him and thanked him for the love he showed to Kate Middleton when she first joined the Royal family.

The dad-of-three, who pulled out of his BAFTAs appearance over the weekend, took to the Instagram account he shares with his wife to praise his grandfather for his kindness.

The 38-year-old wrote: "I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her."

The Duke of Cambridge also went on to add that he will always cherish the time Prince Philip spent with his three children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and two year old Louis.

He continued: "I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!"

Prince William concluded: "My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation.

"Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead.

"I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job."

Buckingham Palace confirmed Prince Philip's death on Friday and shared a statement for the nation.

It read: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course.

"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

Prince William, who is keen to bring up his children as 'normal', according to a royal expert, and Prince Harry will reportedly stand "shoulder to shoulder" at their grandfather's funeral next week.

The two brothers will reunite for the first time since Harry and Meghan Markle's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey last month.

During the tell-all interview, the Duke of Sussex claimed his brother was "trapped" by the Royal family.
