Strictly’s Fleur East says she’s ‘so so sad’ after shock dance-off on BBC show

Fleur East has admitted that she is “so so sad” after the elimination of pal Richie Anderson following their tense dance-off.

The former X Factor contestant and professional dancer Vito Coppola found themselves in the bottom two on Saturday despite falling into the middle of the leaderboard during movie week on Strictly Come Dancing.

Fleur, 34, and Vito, 30, danced the American Smooth to Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid, earning themselves a score of 29 from judges Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas.

TV and Radio presenter Richie Anderson, 34, danced the Samba with partner Giovanni Pernice to Lion King’s Hakuna Matata.

Ultimately, Richie got the axe.

Taking to Instagram following the close call, Fleur expressed her determination to come back with a bang.

She said: "So grateful to be saved by the judges this week. But so so sad to say goodbye to my friend [Richie]."

Alongside a clip from her routine, she added: "Thank you so much for your messages of support. We will work harder this week and do our absolute best on the dance floor.”

Her comment section resembled an award show with dozens of blue tick accounts sharing their thoughts.

Fellow Strictly hopeful Molly Rainford wrote “love you sister”, while Richie himself wrote: “Queen love you so much xxx”.

Speaking on her early-morning radio show last week, the former I’m a Celeb contestant said this week's performance was close to her heart.

“At the start of my Strictly journey I gave a whole list of songs to the team and just slipped in this one and mentioned that The Little Mermaid was my favourite movie. I’m guessing they looked at that and here we are!” she said.

Fleur added: “This is genuinely my favourite Disney movie of all time and I know this song inside out and back to front. I’ve sung it since the age of seven word for word.”

Fleur continued to pay tribute to next year’s Little Mermaid remake, which will star Halle Bailey as the iconic princess.

Fleur explained: “This representation is huge and you can see that from the video compilation that went viral of all these little girls watching the trailer and saying, ‘Mummy, Ariel looks like me.’ It just shows why this representation is so important and weirdly I’m going to play Ariel before Halle gets to play her.”
