MISTAKE NUMBER ONE – EYEBROW SHAPE AND HOW YOU APPLY PRODUCT

Sarah says: “Brows are definitely the most common area I see where people make mistakes in their makeup routine.

“I can’t stress enough how important it is to have the right eyebrow shape as your eyebrows can lift, define, and flatter your whole face and if done wrongly, they can age you.

“Neglecting your brows completely can make you look older, especially if you have sparse brows. Similarly, going too heavy on the product can also age you.

“If you like the defined look, avoid adding any colour to the end of your brow as overextending the tail can draw your face down and age you significantly.

“In general, you want to avoid adding too much product so I recommend starting at the tail and then working inwards.

“Doing this can help you work with the natural shape of your brow, keep it looking fluffy and help you avoid applying too much product.

“Applying too much product in general is a common mistake that can age you whether that’s with your brow products, eyeliner or foundation. In general, less is more.

“To achieve a natural brow look, I would always recommend investing in a brow serum that uses a spoolie wand for application as this achieves the most authentic results.

Neglecting your brows completely can make you look older

“The spoolie will attach to each brow hair which will ensure that every one is coated in product to create a natural look that focuses on the organic shape of your own brows.

“My favourite is the Wow Brow from Brows by Sarah, as it also contains significant regrowth ingredients that promotes thick, full brows whilst also adding immediate definition.

“For those that like to add in hair strands, I recommend using a brow pencil with a precise, triangular nib, such as the Wow Brow Pencil from Brows by Sarah, as this allows you to add in subtle hairs without your brows looking fake.”

MISTAKE NUMBER TWO – MISMATCHED FOUNDATION

Sarah says: “One of the biggest makeup mistakes that people can make is choosing the wrong colour foundation and concealer too light and it will massively age your skin by making you look pale. And if too dark, it will look too fake and cakey.

“Nobody needs to hide blemishes or wrinkles. I believe that we should all embrace the skin that we are in as we are all beautiful in our own way, but it’s completely understandable that some people may want to cover them up which is perfectly fine.

“However, remember that if you try to do so with a light concealer then this will actually highlight the areas that you want to cover.

“When you’re testing a foundation to find the right colour, most people test it on their hands, but I recommend testing it against your jawline.

“The key is to find a colour that doesn’t actually show at all as you want your foundation to look natural and not a different colour to your natural complexion.

“You should also pick a concealer shade 2 to 3 shades lighter than the foundation shade for a highlighted, fresher look which also makes the skin look brighter and more youthful.”

MISTAKE NUMBER THREE – NEGLECTING YOUR LIPS

Sarah says: “I think another big make-up mistake is neglecting your lips or forgetting to apply lip balm or colour, as this can make your makeup look really under-done and not finished.

“Hydration is really underrated when it comes to your lips, but it’s really important to apply a hydrating lip balm every day.

“This can also aid with blood flow and help your lips look more youthful.

“If you want something that’s a little more low maintenance, semi-permanent lip blushing is a really popular form of semi-permanent makeup that I offer at my Brows by Sarah salon for achieving youthful looking lips that are fuller, defined, and enhanced with pigment.

“It can last anywhere from two to three years with top-ups – results will vary depending on how well you care for your lips, particularly whilst they’re healing.

“Equally, a hydrating lip oil is a quick and easy way to rejuvenate, boost and hydrate the lips from day to day.
