Kate Middleton’s outfits will usually sell out instantly as royal enthusiasts hope to steal her style. Through her outfit choices, a style expert explained she often gives a nod to her mother-in-law Princess Diana.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine today, stylist Mark Heyes discussed the fashion choices made by the Duchess of Cambridge.

He explained her looks have changed over the years and what she chooses to wear could give a nod to Princess Diana.

“I think she considers a lot of her looks when it comes to Princess Diana. I think there is a nod,” Mark stated.

He explained Kate seems to have done this on special occasions, such as after the birth of her children.

Mark commented on a photo of Kate and Prince William outside the hospital when Prince Louis was born in 2018.

Kate wore a red Jenny Packham dress which had long sleeves and a white patterned Peter Pan collar.

It had similarities to the outfit worn by Princess Diana following the birth of Prince Harry.

Diana wore a red suit jacket over a crisp white shirt to show a newborn Prince Harry to the world.

Commenting on Kate giving a nod to Diana, Mark continued: “Specifically at St Mary’s hospital. To me that was really definite.

“Some of them you think ‘I suppose anyone could wear polka dot’, but that was very definite which I think is incredible.”

The expert went on to comment on black and white polka dot outfits worn by the two royals.

He stated: “I think this one is quite a definite as well. They were both sporting events, this is Diana at Royal Ascot.”

In 1988, the Princess of Wales attended Royal Ascot wearing a fitted long sleeved monochrome dress.

She paired the polka dot outfit with a matching hat and black and white heels.

Fast forward 30 years and the Duchess of Cambridge appeared to take style inspiration from this look while at Wimbledon.

She wore a similar slim fitting white dress with black spots by designer Jenny Packham.

Presenter Lorraine Kelly went on to add Kate’s looks seem to give a nod to Princess Diana while updating them for the current time.

Lorraine replied: “It’s just bringing it up to date. What I really like about her looks are they are kind of timeless.

“[For example] that red dress, Diana’s is very 80’s and of its time and beautiful but I think with Kate it is timeless.

“That effort is elegance which is hard to achieve.”
