A CLEANING fanatic tried a deep clean on her wooden spoon and extracts a considerable amount of cooking oil.

Chantel Mila, from Melbourne, Australia, showed off her cleaning prowess in a TikTok video – after being inspired by former MasterChef Australia judge Matt Preston.

The simple tip sees Chantel soaking her wooden spoon in boiling water for 10 minutes – with some grim results.

The results will definitely get you considering doing a deep clean of your own.

Matt Preston came up with the ‘wooden spoon test’ five years ago to help home cooks decide whether it’s time to ditch their wooden spoon.

The food critic said in a piece for Delicious: “On the surface a perfect present but stick an old one in a cup of boiling water to see what fate awaits all wooden spoons.

“Give it a sniff. Phew, stinky! And you were going to stir your custard with that.”

Chantel’s video has been viewed over 53,300 times and racked up 1875 likes.

People rushed into the comments to praise Chantel’s hack.

One user wrote: “I can’t imagine what the water would look like if we done ours.”

Another asked: “Wouldn’t they be cleaned properly in the dish washer?”

Chantel replied: “The soaking helps deep clean inside the wood – usual washing only washes the outside.”
