Theophilio Launches Capsule Collection with Black Fashion Fair

Black Fashion Fair teamed with Brooklyn-based label Theophilio for its first official capsule collection, BAZAAR.com can exclusively reveal.

The e-commerce platform and designer Edvin Thompson came together to launch the Family Portrait capsule, which consists of luxe T-shirts available in six colorways and featuring nostalgic imagery from Thompson’s own childhood. Delicately embellished with crystal embroidery, each tee features one of two images: There’s one of Thompson and his family posing for a portrait, and another of a candid shot from the designer’s home island of Jamaica. The release of the collaborative collection follows Theophilio’s Fall/Winter 2021 presentation for New York Fashion Week, which took place today.

“For Black History Month, I’m really excited about this partnership with Black Fashion Fair,” Thompson tells BAZAAR about the latest release. “Highlighting my Jamaican heritage with photographs that are very close to my heart, I believe it’s so important to support spaces that amplify Black designers and creatives.”

Black Fashion Fair founder Antoine Gregory echoed Thompson’s statement, expressing the importance of continuing to champion Black fashion talent through such an imperative time for change within the industry at large.

“Black Fashion Fair at once is past, present, and future. It is our responsibility to contribute to the conversation surrounding Blackness in fashion,” says Gregory. “Through Black Fashion Fair and capsules like our Family Portrait collaboration with Theophilio, we are able create a space where Black designers of all kinds can share their stories, but also take those stories and highlight them in a way in which they become accessible to everyone.”

He continued, “By doing that, we are able to own the narrative around Black fashion, style, and culture, and give agency to our communities. That is our responsibility.”
