MANY beauty brands and skincare influencers claim to have the secret to anti-aging, which often comes with a hefty price tag.
One dermatologist has revealed that simple skincare mistakes could be aging you faster than you’d hoped though – including washing your face wrong!
Sharing her sage advice on Tiktok, board certified dermatologist Dr. Lindsey Zubritsky said that your skin care woes can begin your early twenties.
As young skin still looks radiate, many women won’t use anti-aging products until our mid-late twenties or even thirties.
Dr Lindsey, who is better known as @dermguru on the app, explained that this is often too late as our skin has already been damaged over the years.
“Skincare for antiaging actually starts in our teens and early twenties… [which] is when we’re experiencing the most sun exposure,” she explained.

Like most skin experts, the Tiktok dermatologist recommends wearing a strong SPF during the day and using retinol serums at night to help protect your skin.
“…in your thirties, forties and fifties, the damage has already been done,” she pointedly added.
However, this wasn't the only change she made to your skincare routine.
Rather ironically, Dr Lindsey says it best to apply any moistures to damp skin instead of dry – especially if you want the best anti-aging results.

“It’s actually increasing the ability to moisturise and hydrate,” she told her 1 million followers on the app, adding that you should also do the same with hyaluronic acid.
Speaking of washing your face, it turns out that many of us are doing it wrong and that a simple splash of cold water isn’t enough.
However, spending money on expensive scrubs and make up wipes won’t necessarily help either – as these washes can actually strip the skin too.
“We’re accumulating dirt [and] debris all day long…and if we don’t get that off of our skin, it’s gonna clog our pores and makes us look older,” Dr Lindsey explained, adding that poor cleansing could also lead to other skin issues.
These include acne, blackheads and even rosacea.
Even brushing your teeth after you clean your face causes issues, with traces of saliva, toothpaste and even bacteria left behind afterwards. (Gross!)
If you want to have stunning skin in your sixties, the US dermatologist recommends brushing before using a gentle face cleanser for at least 30 seconds.
This should provide a good base for any products you place on top and will help keep your skin looking supple for years to come.
For those looking to slow time even further, you should also apply products to your, neck, chest and hands – which often show signs of aging as well.
“These area tend to get just as much sun exposure as our face does, but if we aren’t applying SPF these are aging much quicker than our face” Dr Lindsey said.
With these common skin mistakes cleared up, your skins should be looking youthful for decades to come – just make sure you were sunscreen!
