Jordan’s chilling performance was first posted to the TikTok account @carezthe1, where it gained over nine million views.
Users were so captivated by the snippet of Jordan’s voice that they begged for more.
That’s when the ten-year-old’s mom Lauren posted a full clip of her son singing Sam Cooke’s soulful ode to the obstacles, yet hopes, of a black person.
The full clip of Jordan, who started singing when he was just six years old, raked up over three million views and gained him national recognition.
The 1963 hit was inspired by events in Cooke’s life – most notoriously when Cooke and his friends were turned away from a white-only motel in Louisiana.
Jordan chose to sing the song because his ‘Papa’ had told him the story when was just eight-year-old and he fell in love with the song.
The ten-year-old’s ability to express the passion of the song through his voice shows how talented he is, and although he said he was ‘a little nervous’ before he began singing.
He added that as soon as he got on stage he felt ‘comfortable.’
Jordan ‘couldn’t’ believe’ the response to his singing and was shocked to have become a viral sensation overnight.
After he went viral TikTok, Jordan was featured on The View in a special Juneteenth performance with gospel singer Kirk Franklin and performed with the Maverick City Music Group.
Jordan is spending his time preparing for America’s Got Talent auditions and hopes to inspire other kids his age to go after their dreams; in an interview with a local TV state, Jordan said: ‘If you keep on trying, you can go far.’
