Captain Pugwash-themed Dorset bungalow built in the 1950s which is one of the last undeveloped homes on ‘Millionaire’s Row’ Sandbanks goes on the market for £5M

  • Pugwash appears throughout the house in stained glass windows and paintings
  • There are lots of other nautical-themed touches throughout the £5M property

A Captain Pugwash-themed bungalow that is one of the last undeveloped properties on the Millionaire’s Row of Sandbanks has gone up for sale for a whopping £5million.

The unassuming and tired-looking bungalow enjoys a stunning location on the posh peninsula in Poole Harbour, Dorset.

The plot has panoramic dual aspect views of the harbour on one side and Sandbanks beach on the other.

The estate agents selling the property say whoever buys it will most likely demolish it and replace it with a much bigger and modern home that could be worth £10million.

The 1950s halet bungalow was purchased by the late George White in 1995. He named the property after the cartoon pirate and added his own mischievous interior design touches.

He also added metal panels and portholes to the entrance stairway to create a submarine feel.

It has a bespoke kitchen inspired by boat galley kitchens, one spacious reception room overlooking the harbour and another with large, glazed doors onto the rear deck with breathtaking sea views.

There is also a sunroom and a large bedroom with an en suite bathroom on the ground floor.

Upstairs, there are three more bedrooms, a family bathroom and a dormer extension that has been used as an office space and has views of both the harbour and the beach.

Outside there is a sunken Jacuzzi in the rear deck and an upper deck area, as well as direct access to the award-winning Sandbanks beach.

Robert Dunford from estate agents Tailor Made said: ‘Once in a while we have the pleasure of discovering a true hidden gem in Sandbanks. Even after so many years helping people buy and sell in this exclusive and beautiful part of the world we can still be taken by surprise.

‘Pugwash is situated in one of the most sought after parts of the peninsula, where properties can enjoy fantastic views of both sea and harbour, even within the same room.

‘The house has been in the same hands for almost 30 years, a sure sign that it has been a cherished home.

‘The property is a perfect plot for a rebuild opportunity or would make a fascinating refurbishment project.

‘Whatever the future has in store for Pugwash, it is certain that the new owner will be able to take on a legacy of sharing happy times, fun and a love of Sandbanks with future generations.’

Potential buyers are asked to submit their best bids by March 17.
