Royal fashion is definitely back on the menu this week after seeing more and more members of The Royal Family step out to attend special engagements.
This week we got to see the fabulous Kate Middleton step out at the re-opening of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on Wednesday.
Kate made sure to dress to impress as she always does whilst adding a bit more glam to her look with a pair of gold embellished Jennifer Chamandi court heels.
Whilst we were like magpies to diamonds with her chic choice of footwear, we also couldn’t take our eyes off of her very on-trend houndstooth print check dress by designer Alessandra Rich.
Naturally The Duchess oozed elegance, however, this choice of dress reminded us of an occasion where her late mother-in-law Princess Diana wore a very similar dress too.
Back in 1981, Princess Diana sported a sophisticated skirt suit by designer Caroline Charles and of course sparked a trend for the traditional print.
Amongst all of the wonderful outfit choices that Kate has made during her time as part of The Royal Family, we have noticed how her and Diana were big fans of this particular pattern so we thought to go back through history to see other occasions that Kate was inspired by The Princess of Wales’ love for a checkered print.
In 2018 we saw Kate embark on a tour of Sweden and take a daring fashion risk with a bold red and white houndstooth Catherine Walker coat dress.
This had a very distinctive match to when Princess Diana sported the same pattern in 1990 when herself and a young Prince William attended the christening of Diana’s niece.
There is no doubt that the bold print as still fashionable today.
In 1980, this rare picture of Diana leaving her place of work at the Young England kindergarten was seen snapped in a gorgeous tartan style check skirt and we automatically got transported to the time in which Kate wore a very similar style by designer Emilia Wickstead.
Hosting a Christmas party at Kensington Palace with Prince William, The Duchess wowed in the fun skirt and paired it with a black roll neck jumper and knee high boots for a modern twist.

By now we have become accustomed to expecting classy outfit choices from Kate and she never fails.
Back in 2017 whilst carrying out royal duties with Prince William, Kate sported this chic check coat from one of her favourite high street brands L.K.Bennett.
This takes us back to when Princess Diana was pictured with Prince Harry and Prince William in a very similar style and colour version of the popular print.
Ending on a fun take of the check prints, we were absolutely flawed when Kate radiated pure regal elegance in a red and white gingham dress by Eponine in 2016 and we remember how much of a fan Diana was of this pretty spring pattern.
We obviously remember the iconic pink trousers which Diana was seen wearing but our jaws hit the floor when The Princess of Wales stepped out in 1990 in a pink check dress with matching hat – this look deserved a round of applause.
As we continue to see Kate blow us away with her style, we can’t wait to ‘check out’ ways in which she’ll pay tribute to her mother-in-law’s iconic style.
