Mum shares her five-minute $2 recipe for cake bars for her kids for school – and it’s a hit with parents everywhere

An Aussie mum waiting for payday has revealed how she made a simple budget-friendly snack for her children to take to school in just five minutes.
The Adelaide mum baked cake bars using a sausage roll maker and shared the results to a popular Facebook group.
‘I don’t get paid til tomorrow and I needed something cheap and easy for kids’ recess,’ she wrote.
The quick and easy dish only took five minutes to make and inspired hundreds of other parents part of the social media group to do the same.
The woman used a $1 Black and Gold vanilla cake mix from IGA as well as one egg, half a cup of milk and 60g butter, and she then mixed the ingredients together before cooking.

‘I cooked it in the sausage roll maker for five mins or so. Cute lil cake bars,’ the woman wrote.
In 2020 the sausage roll maker took Australia by storm, with parents using it to make everything from banana bread to chiko rolls, pizza pies and apple pies.
Other mums around the country seemed impressed with the affordable snack idea.

‘What a fabulous idea!!’ one parent wrote, another said: ‘Well now I want a sausage roll maker.’
‘I was going to throw mine away, now I’m keeping it,’ a third added.
Another said: ‘I do this too but I then roll them in chocolate icing and coconut then you have lamington fingers.’
