A McDonald’s employee has revealed the multi-step process it takes to clean the grills at the fast food chain, scraping off the caked-on grease and charred meat that collects after grilling up burgers for countless customers.

Josiah Kim shared behind-the-scenes clips from his McDonald’s restaurant, filming as he scrapes, washes, scrubs, and brushes the dirty grills.

The videos have quickly gone viral, leaving some viewers horrified, others satisfied, and others amazed still that the grills actually get such a deep clean.

Josiah said that this is how McDonald’s restaurants clean their grills every night.

First, he uses a scraper to ‘scrape the gunk off,’ a brown residue which looks like a mix of charred beef remnants and grease.

He then pours some water on the still-hot grill, a process called deglazing, which helps remove ‘gunk’ stuck grills and pans.

The water quickly boils and loosens the gunk, and he uses a squeegee tool to scrape and push it off the grill.

Next, he pours on a small container of a ‘special goop that cleans the grill. As it heats up on the grill, he moves it around with a blue scrubbing tool.

After a bit of scrubbing, he adds more water, then uses the squeegee again to slide the water and unstuck gunk from the grill.

The grill is noticeably cleaner at this point, with the exception of some stains that seem pretty baked in.

But Josiah keeps cleaning, dumping a blue bucket of water onto the grill twice and going over it again with the squeegee, with the water a bit clearer each time.

When he finishes, the grill looks not brand new but certainly clean, offering a stark contrast to how it looked when Josiah began.

Josiah’s videos have gone viral since they were posted a week ago, with the first one earning 17.1 views on his page and an additional 5.1 million views on another account.
