A dietitian has revealed the best way to save money in the supermarket, while also picking up healthy food.

Nichola Ludlam-Raine, from Leeds, has shared easy ways to save hundreds of pounds on groceries, including which aisles to shop in and which brands to buy.

The mother-of-one, who goes by Nics Nutrition, and has more than 35,000 followers on Instagram revealed that writing a meal plan and a shopping list saves time and money while searching for green deals, loose and wonky vegetables and buying frozen fruit and vegetables can also cut costs.

She also revealed that picking supermarket’s own brand pasta, rice and cereal as well as getting tins and spices in the world food aisle can be a big saver.   

Picking up goods from the world food aisle can be a serious saver for busy families looking to cut costs.

At Tesco, a 400g tin of Napolina Chopped Tomatoes from Italian brand costs 60p, while a Summer Pride Chopped Tomatoes, of the same size that are sold in the World Food Aisle is just 40p.   

Nics, who is a registered dietitian,  also advised buying tinned fish over fresh fish, picking up dried lentils and heading to the baking aisle to buy nuts.

Nics also said buy nuts from the baking aisle, as they’re often cheaper and there’s so much variety,  as well not to go shopping when hungry

She also said to avoid buying bottled water or ice and not to go shopping when hungry – as it can lead to unnecessary purchases. 

‘With so much choice in the shops these days, it can be easy to spend more time in the shop than we need to (which of course we need to be cautious of these days!), AND overspend on food we haven’t necessarily gone in to buy,’ Nics wrote in a lengthy caption.
