Sweet granddaughter is self-harming because nasty bullies taunt her | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: OUR granddaughter is the sweetest girl but bullies are making her life unbearable.

She’s 16, not the most outgoing person and has had a challenging childhood.

Her older brother has complex needs, so she’s used to her parents having to focus their energies on him.

She often comes to stay with us. I’m her grandad, 71, and it’s breaking my heart to see her so miserable.

There is a group of girls who make her life horrible.

They make snide comments about her clothes, the music she listens to . . . anything they can throw at her.

She has started to self-harm and is so low we are truly worried for her.

What can we do to help?

My husband’s affair haunts my life

DEIDRE SAYS: Your granddaughter’s school will have a publicly available bullying policy.

Encourage her parents to contact the school and ensure this is being enforced.

If they feel not enough action is being taken then they can also ask the school governors to look into the issue.

Please make sure that your family is documenting when and what the bullies are doing so you have a clear record.

Your granddaughter is clearly very depressed and would definitely benefit from urgent support.

She can also contact The Mix, a leading support group for young people in the UK (themix.org.uk, 0808 808 4994).
