Weather forecasters have predicted the coming week will break temperature records for the year, as Brits brace for the mercury to brush 30C. The Met Office has predicted 29C highs in London this afternoon, and temperatures will hold overnight. While a godsend for many, these highs could make some aspects of life unbearable, especially at night.
How to heat-proof your bedroom at night without an AC
With temperatures now on course to hit the early 20C range at night, people will need a way to cool down.
Inadequately cooled homes will prevent people from sleeping and make it impossible to enjoy the heatwave.
Although air conditioning is the fastest and most effective way to reduce temperatures, it is also the most expensive, so many people will want an alternative.
Power down
Cooling down a room requires people to turn off anything that creates heat, and that means technology.
Televisions, computers, gaming consoles, and more will churn out heat by the second, contributing to an overall warmer room.
As such, turning them off should help provide a little respite from the spiking heat.
Change your bedding
Consider going a step further than thin sheets by changing bedding to a more breathable fabric.
White, pure cotton bedding is the coolest and most breathable and will help cycle the air around rather than store heat.
The colour also reflects light, keeping the sheets cool even when the sun rises around 3.55am.

Buy a tabletop fan
Large air conditioning units and large fans are expensive, but there are budget options.
Tabletop fans, on the other hand, may prove a good fit for a budget.
They can cost less than £10 to around £30 and be compact enough for the bedside table or computer desk.
Repurpose a hot water bottle
Defy hot water bottle manufacturers by using their product for its opposite purpose.
Instead of topping it up with a hot tap, fill it will cold water in the morning and throw it in the freezer.
Come bedtime, the water will have frozen, and people can brave the heat with a cold water bottle.
