A video of Ukrainian soldiers seeing Stonehenge as they drive past the prehistoric monument has warmed people’s hearts – and left many making the same joke.

The clip, posted on TikTok by a soldier whose name appears to be Vanya Dmitrenko, shows the troops sitting on a coach as they drive along the A303 in Wiltshire.

As the troops excitedly chat amongst themselves, someone points out they are about to pass the pagan landmark, at which point they all scramble to look out of the windows.

Excited chatter in Ukrainian can be heard amid exclamations of: ‘Wow!’ as they pass the site, which is about 5,000 years old.

Responding to the video, which has had more than 1 million views and has been shared on Twitter, people said it was just the antidote they needed. But many have questioned how the soldiers managed not to get stuck in traffic around the site.

At the start of the clip, which is filmed on the back seat of the bus, the soldier sitting next to the person recording turns to him excitedly.

Dressed in khaki and with his face smeared in camouflage paint, he jubilantly says: ‘Stonehenge! Stonehenge!’

In the background, fellow troops jostle to look out the window, with some pulling out their phones.

As the bus passes the landmark and the camera zooms in, soldiers are heard proclaiming: ‘Wow!’ as they see it for the first time.

Many viewers expressed how lovely it was to see the soldiers’ excitement, and wished them well as they battle against the Russian invasion of their country.

One viewer said: ‘Welcome warriors!’ while another said, ‘Keep safe guys, you will overcome.’

Others said the reaction  was ‘so wholesome’ and ‘cute’. One viewer wrote: ‘I love this more than I can say!!! The excitement is amazing.’

Another Briton advised the soldiers to go back to the pagan landmark during the summer solstice, when people gather to celebrate the longest day of the year when the sun’s rays shine through the centre of Stonehenge.

While many people appeared to love the video for its wholesome content, other Britons, who have driven past Stonehenge several times before, made the same comment .

As the video showed the coach driving past the landmark at a fast pace, many drew attention to the fact they were lucky to pick up any speed at all as the road is usually jam-packed with traffic.

The stretch of A303 which drives past Stonehenge often sees drivers slowing down to get a good look at the site, which causes congestion on the road at most times during the day.

One person wrote: ‘There is always a traffic in this road.’

‘How the hell are they driving past it at that speed?’ another asked.

‘It’s been a 5mph crawl for the five miles either side of it whenever I’ve driven past.’

Another viewer joked they avoid the road ‘like the plague’ due to traffic.
