Long before Euphoria students were partying hard, Skins characters were laying the groundwork with their wild antics – although, granted, the makeup looks were nowhere near as cool.
In today’s News That Will Make You Feel Old™, the show has just celebrated the 15th anniversary of first airing on E4, both entertaining and traumatising us with the (at times dark) teen drama antics.
So what are the cast up to more than a decade later, and how much have they changed since their Skins days? Here’s where they are now (*warning: contains show spoilers!).
Kaya Scodelario – Effy Stonem
One of TV’s most infamous party girls, Effy easily played a large part in why we all wore so much smudgy black eyeliner in the 00s. Actress Kaya Scodelario went on to appear in a number of Hollywood films, including the Maze Runner and Pirates of the Caribbean series. At just 14 when she was cast as one of the show’s biggest characters, Kaya is now a mum of two and about to turn 30, but she’s barely aged in that time. Although she’s ditched the “lived-in” makeup look, her hair remains the same signature dark brunette shade.
Hannah Murray – Cassie Ainsworth
Troubled teen Cassie was recognisable for her beachy blonde hair during her time on Skins, but these days Hannah Murray prefers an auburn or brunette hue when it comes to her hair colour. Most notably Hannah went on to start as Gilly in HBO’s Game of Thrones as well as a number of film appearances.
Luke Pasqualino – Freddie McClair
Heartthrob Freddie met a rather grisly end on the show after love interest Effy’s psychiatrist Dr Foster killed him with a baseball bat (yes, this show was really dark). Actor Luke Pasqualino has since ditched the heavy sideswept 00s indie band haircut, switching his signature look for a shorter cut and stubble, and has since appeared in popular TV shows like Our Girl and Death In Paradise.
Jack O’Connell – Cook
Effy’s other man in the show’s heavily-featured love triangle, Jack O’Connell now looks fairly different with a beard compared to his once alter-ego Cook. The actor went onwards and upwards to win a BAFTA Rising Star Award and star in films such as Starred Up and Unbroken, plus TV shows Godless and The North Water.
Nicholas Hoult – Tony Stonem
Fans will remember that Effy’s older brother Tony was hit by a bus at the end of the first season and his storylines from then on centred around the aftermath of the accident. Although he’s barely changed facially, actor Nicholas Hoult has since ditched the character’s shaggy haircut for a much shorter ‘do. Along with Dev Patel, Nicholas is one of the show’s biggest success stories, having gone on to appear in several major movies including the X-Men series, Mad Max: Fury Road and Tolkein.
Kathryn Prescott – Emily Fitch
Kathryn Prescott sported red hair during her time as Skins’ Emily Fitch, but has since toned things down somewhat. Both she and twin sister Megan, who played Emily’s twin Katie on the show, have ditched the red hair in favour of a more understated dark brunette, but Kathryn has kept her fringe on and off over the years. After Skins she stayed in acting in both film and television roles
Lily Loveless – Naomi Campbell
Emily’s love interest Naomi sported platinum blonde hair throughout the show, briefly appearing with light brunette hair when the show revisited her character in a later season as part of a terminal cancer storyline. Lily has remained a blonde since then and has gone on to star in a number of TV shows and films, but most recently you probably recognise her from twisty Netflix thriller The Stranger.
