For Helen Mirren, a full face of makeup is all in a day’s work — even when she’s working from home.

The 75-year-old star brought a little glamour to her quarantine routine, recently revealing that she still glammed up during lockdown with her husband, director Taylor Hackford.

“Every day I put on makeup,” Mirren told People, quickly clarifying that her commitment to cosmetics had nothing to do with her spouse.

“I didn’t do it for Taylor because Taylor never notices. He asks if I’ve got makeup on or not and doesn’t really care, but he certainly doesn’t notice,” she added in the Cannes Film Festival red carpet interview.

The star continued, “He’ll sometimes say in a rather puzzled way, ‘Oh, you look really nice.’ You just associate the fact that I look nice with the fact I’ve just spent an hour doing my makeup!”

Rather than slicking on lipstick and eyeshadow for 76-year-old Hackford, to whom she’s been married since 1997, Mirren said she did her makeup and “[got] dressed” on the daily “because I enjoy it.”

“I felt like I was living my life properly. So, it was actually a good experience for me,” she explained.

Mirren was in good company: Dolly Parton also continued wearing a full face of makeup during the pandemic, even while sleeping. And stylist and designer Rachel Zoe recently told Page Six Style she never slipped into sweatpants while social distancing at home.

Although Mirren hadn’t ditched her daily beauty routine, she did have to elevate her style for her red carpet return at Cannes.

“I love the opportunity to wear incredibly beautiful clothes,” she told People. “I appreciate the craft of couture. I’m a girl, I love, love dressing up.”

She dressed up for the event’s opening ceremony on July 6, sporting a yellow Dolce & Gabbana gown alongside a group of glamorous stars including Bella Hadid and Jessica Chastain.

The actress paired her bright ensemble with equally show-stopping jewelry, accessorizing with a dazzling statement necklace for the French fête.

But don’t expect Mirren to be donning couture on the daily, as she said she’s “perfectly happy to give it all away at the end of the night and go back to my scruff.”
