Antony set to begin Man Utd career with FINE from Ajax as Van Basten slams him for ‘not proving much’ in two years | The Sun

AJAX boss Alfred Schreuder has claimed that new Manchester United signing Antony could be FINED as he departs the club.

The Brazilian winger, 22, was confirmed as a Red Devil on Tuesday afternoon.

United completed the staggering £85.5million move.

After a summer-long pursuit, Antony eventually forced his way out of the Amsterdam club, begging to leave for Old Trafford.

Following an explosive interview with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the forward was finally left out of the Ajax match squad.

And his now ex-gaffer Schreuder has told Ziggo Sports show 'Rondo' that Anthony could be docked wages.

Schreuder explained: "Absolutely [he could be fined]. I don't think it's good that it's possible within our club. If you're Ajax, it's just bad that this happens.

"I've talked about it with Antony. If you're disappointed for a day or two, I understand, but at some point you're a professional.

"Then I said: 'I will continue with the guys who are there'.

"At a certain point you get angry about it, 'like… what are we doing?'

"Then I think: 'you're just a f***ing player'. You just have to do your thing. I talk to him about it and hear his side of the story.

"You try to brush it off as a manager and move on with the guys you do have. But my personal feeling is that it's just bad."

Ajax icon Marco van Basten also sensationally claimed that Man Utd are paying "far too much money" to sign the winger.

He said: "Is Antony worth £85.5m? No, by far no.

"Antony hasn't proven much yet. Of course he played a few good games. But his efficiency has not been high in the last two years."

Antony is now poised to link up with former boss Erik Ten Hag and his new team-mates.

However, as Newcastle have seen with Alexander Isak, getting a work permit sorted can take a while.

Therefore, Antony is not expected to be available to feature away at Leicester on Thursday night.

That would instead mean he should make his debut in a crunch clash against high-flying Arsenal on Sunday instead.
