Darts star throws headbutt at board in frustration after surviving match dart

A mixed of frustration and relief led to Arron Monk throwing a headbutt at the dart board following his UK Open victory over Vladimir Andersen in Minehead.

Monk took a 6-5 victory thanks to a clutch double top with his opponent missing a golden chance to book a second-round clash, with an average of 84.72 enough to progress.

With the Englishman feeling rather frustrated with his performance, he shook the hand of his opponent before collecting his darts and narrowly missing the board when throwing a mock headbutt with some power.

With the crowd breaking into a light applause on the outside boards at Minehead with other games in progress, a chuckle followed his post-game antics.

Monk, 32, is the son of former 1996 Winmau World Masters winner Colin Monk and is currently ranked 103 on the PDC tour – booking a second round clash against Robbie Knops.

Monk recently celebrated his return to the PDC Tour thanks to a Q-School triumph in which he came from 3-2 down to seal a vital victory over Dom Taylor.

He will be hoping to follow that up with a long run at the 'FA Cup' of darts, having reached the last 32 at the tournament way back in 2012.

Monk's best performance on the PDC Tour came in the same year, with a last 16 spot at the Grand Slam.

With £110,000 on offer to the winner, Michael Smith comes in as top seed with Danny Noppert the defending champion having beaten Smith 11-10 in last year's final.

With three-time winner Michael van Gerwen also feeling confident after his recent Premier League form, the tournament will come to a close on Sunday evening.

Earlier in the day darts fans were stunned to learn the age of youngster Luke Littler, who cruised to a 6-0 victory over Nick Fullwell on the main stage.

One fan hypothesised: "Luke Littler is a tremendous talent but he's at least 30! There's no way he's 16."
