Gareth Southgate 2/1 to be knighted by the Queen in New Year Honours list after England beat Germany at Euro 2020

GARETH SOUTHGATE is available at 2/1 to receive a knighthood this year.

That's with bookmakers Ladbrokes, who've slashed the price of Southgate being knighted in the next New Year Honours List.

The drop in odds follows England's famous victory over Germany at Wembley on Tuesday.

Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane were on the scoresheet as the Three Lions won 2-0 and progressed to the quarter-final stages.

England are now just three matches away from winning Euro 2020 with the Ukraine up next in Rome.

Should Kane and CO. progress – a kind semi-final draw against either Denmark or the Czech Republic beckons on home soil.

England's World Cup-winning manager Alf Ramsey was knighted in 1967.

And Southgate could find himself joining that extremely exclusive club of knighted England managers if he guides the nation to a first major trophy since 1966.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Gareth Southgate's got the whole nation believing once again for the second time in as many major tournaments.

"And there's every chance he receives royal recognition later this year as a result."

After England's last-16 win over Germany, Southgate hailed the 'immense' performance from his players.

He said: "The players were immense, right the way through the team.

"The fans in the stadium were also incredible. I've been in here with a full house and not heard it near the levels heard today, but the energy was incredible in the stadium.

"We've not achieved what we want to achieve yet. We can look back on a day like today in the future, but I want to get my focus right and look ahead to Saturday."
