Betting tips for Genesis Invitational

Hot tip: Rory McIlroy, 12-1

The former world No 1 is going to win again soon, and he will fancy his chances after briefly hitting the front in the final round last year, before fading into a share of fifth place. That was his second top five finish here.

The presence of seven of the top eight in the world rankings – Tyrrell Hatton is the only man missing – means McIlroy is a tasty price to end his 15 months run without a win. And class is permanent.

Medium price: Adam Scott, 33-1.

The defending champion simply loves Riviera. His victory 12 months ago – after an opening 72 left him eight shots off the pace – was his sixth top ten in this event, and he is the leading all-time money winner here.

The former world No 1 looked to be running into form with a top ten finish at Torrey Pines a couple of weeks ago. Since making a belated return to action after the coronavirus restrictions were eased he has been growing increasingly confident.

Long shot: Doc Redman, 175-1.

The 23-year-old American was tipped as one of the next big things after his 2017 US Amateur win, but found things tougher than expected after a runner-up finish at the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic earned him instant promotion to the PGA Tour.

Still managed to post a couple of top three finishes last year as well as a fourth place, and is the type of player who is likely to grab his first win at a big price. And Riviera, which is not just a bomber’s paradise, looks a good fit.
