Man Utd star Teden Mengi joins Birmingham on loan transfer until end of season to link up with Tahith Chong

BIRMINGHAM have confirmed the capture of highly rated Manchester united defender Teden Mengi on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Red Devils academy product will link up with friend Tahith Chong, who has played 13 times for the Championship outfit.

Mengi – who has experience playing European football – can help shore up Birmingham's leaky defence.

The Blues are currently sat 18th in the second tier and lost their last outing 2-1 to QPR.

And they have conceded 11 goals in their last five games.

On the move to Lee Bowyer's side, Mengi told BluesTV: "Everything I have spoken about with him [Bowyer] has been really encouraging.

"He believes in me and I believe in what he is saying to me, so I am glad that he has trusted me enough to bring me here, and I am ready to work as hard as I can for him.

"I am delighted to be here.

"[I am] ready to work hard and kick on for the rest of the season.

“It was important for me to try and find what was best for me, which is here at Blues and to just kick on and get as many games under my belt and improve as much as I can as a player and as a person.

“As soon as I heard about Blues I was straight on the phone to [Tahith] Chongy and he told me it is great, the lads are great, I am going to enjoy it, everyone is a nice person, so I am just looking forward to it.”
