Newcastle 'quoted more than £50m for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez' as they line up ambitious January transfer

NEWCASTLE have been quoted more than £50million to sign Benfica forward Darwin Nunez, according to reports.

The highly rated Uruguayan has 18 goals in 22 appearances for the Portuguese side this term, which has attracted interest from a host of top clubs.

And according to i News, Newcastle are one of the clubs interested in signing Nunez in the winter transfer window.

Nunez is believed to have a £100m release clause but could be picked up for less.

The Magpies have been quoted in excess of £50m for the 22-year-old.

Atletico Madrid and Manchester City are also keeping an eye on the player, with both teams in need of a striker.

Alternatively, Newcastle are plotting an audacious swoop for Arsenal outcast Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 32-year-old was stripped off the captaincy and banished from the first-team after a 'disciplinary' breach.

And Aubameyang's future at the club doesn't look promising.

The Mirror say the Toon are looking to take the forward on loan for the remainder of the season to help them stay in the division, and they'd also like a £20m option to buy.

Newcastle are also believed to be closing in on £31m rated right-back Kieran Trippier.
