Piers Morgan pinpoints Arsenal's three 'big problems' but hails 'rearguard win by 10-man Arsenal' over Wolves

PIERS MORGAN pinpointed Arsenal's three 'big problems' crippling the club right now.

But he did reserve some positives to praise the Gunners's 'rearguard 10-man win' at Wolves.

Gabriel's poked finish at Molineux on Thursday night proved the only goal of the game to secure a crucial three points for the North Londoners.

But they had to hold on a man down for the final 20 minutes after Gabriel Martinelli's thoughtless double yellow card within five seconds.

That was Arsenal's 15th red card under Mikel Arteta.

And incredibly they have FOUR in the first 41 days and six matches of 2022 – double the number of goals.

The ill-discipline and under-par productivity in the box were both highlighted by Morgan after the Wolves win – as well as poor leadership.

The SunSport columnist tweeted: "Excellent rearguard win by 10-man Arsenal.

"But our lack of a top striker, lack of a real captain/leader, and shocking lack of general team discipline all remain big problems."

He also added: "Arsenal need a striker. A proper one. And discipline."

Another tweet read: "We should make Aaron Ramsdale captain."

Former captain and striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona on a free transfer on deadline day.

That left just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as recognised centre-forwards in the squad with three and zero Premier League goals respectively this season.

Both men are out of contract in the summer, too.

'OUT OF IDEAS'

But the sending off issues continue to baffle manager Arteta.

Martinelli followed Gabriel, Gabriel Xhaka and Thomas Partey in going for an early bath since New Year.

Asked how to stop the red cards, boss Arteta said: “I've run out of ideas I think.

"The character, how we dug in, the spirit we showed, I'm really proud of the boys. There was togetherness and unity.

“We put ourselves in trouble with the red card and we had to dig in.

"Wolves threw seven players up front and it was difficult to maintain a clean sheet but we defended the box extremely well.

“We need to play with 11 players in the last 16 games and that is key. To win games with ten men is very unlikely."
