Ten Hag suffers Man Utd blow before even accepting job as Van Persie 'snubs his offer to join him as coach'

MANCHESTER UNITED hero Robin van Persie has reportedly turned down the offer to be part of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff at the club.

Ten Hag, who is inching towards being named manager, wanted fellow Dutchman Van Persie as part of his backroom staff.

Reports last month suggested Ten Hag is eager to appoint a coach with Manchester United connections if he gets the job, with Van Persie fitting the bill.

But the 38-year-old has now rejected the chance to head back to Old Trafford, according to ESPN via Soccer News.

The news comes as a blow to Ten Hag, before he has even been confirmed as the next Manchester United boss.

Van Persie is understood to be happy with his current position at Dutch outfit Feyenoord, another of his former clubs.

The former frontman is an assistant to manager Arne Slot, and also acts as striker coach.

It's also claimed family reasons have left Van Persie reluctant to leave Feyenoord, with his son Shaqueel currently part of the academy setup at the club.

Former England manager Steve McLaren, ex-United coach Rene Meulensteen, and Lyon gaffer Peter Bosz have all been touted as possible assistants to Ten Hag.

But one man who looks unlikely to sign up to Ten Hag's Old Trafford revolution is Van Persie.
