Tour de France fan ordered to pay ONE EURO fine after causing huge crash which saw rider break both his arms

THE fan who caused an horrendous crash at this summer's Tour de France has been ordered to pay a fine of just ONE EURO.

In June, midway through Stage One of the Tour, the female spectator held up a sign which read: "Go Grandpa-Granny!"

It's claimed the banner was meant for her grandparents in Germany.

But as the peloton charged towards her, the supporter was facing away from the flow of traffic, proudly showing off her sign.

But the placard caught German rider Tony Martin, who was sent flying off his bike and sparked a domino effect.

Dozens of racers were left stricken, with Spain's Marc Soler breaking BOTH of his arms.

Rather than stay to help, the spectator fled the scene before handing herself into police four days later where she was arrested.

She was initially threatened with a four-month suspended jail sentence.

But after prosecutors acknowledged her remorse at her 'dangerous' actions and 'stupidity', they settled on a fine.

The fan was ordered to pay a 'symbolic' €1 payment to the French professional cyclists association, UNCP.

She was also fined £1,000 for sparking the massive pile-up.

In October, director of the Tour Christian Prudhomme had begged prosecutors to take a lenient stance.

Prudhomme claimed: "She did something daft, she's no terrorist.

"We just want people to take care when they come to the Tour and remember they are there to see the champions and not to get on television."

As well as Soler, Ignatas Konovalovas, Cyril Lemoine and Jasha Sutterlin were all forced to retire from the race due to the injuries sustained in the smash.

In total, 21 riders were taken down by the fan's sign.
