Vienna Blood filming locations: Where is the crime drama filmed?

SEASON two of BBC Two's exciting drama has finally arrived and it's bound to have us glued to our seats all over again!

The new filming locations include places visited by Mozart and a garden created as a result of Napoleon's deadly cannons. Here's everything you need to know about where the show was filmed.

Where is Vienna Blood filmed?

The show was filmed in Austria's beautiful capital, Vienna.

The city is famous not only for its aesthetically pleasing backdrop, it is known as the city Sigmund Freud began his career,the hometown of the musical genius Mozart as well as Beethoven's final resting place.

Here are some of the most iconic locations that appear in the psychological thriller.

Burggarten Court Garden

The well known Viennese Garden appears in season two as a meeting place for Max and his father.

Following Napoleon's attack on the city of Vienna, large areas were cleared which provided space for the Burggarten park to be created.

WALTZING ON

Imperial Hotel at Kärntner Ring 16.

The five-star hotel dates back to 1863 and is popular for its grand and extravagant interior and equally stunning exterior.

The luxurious hotel is a prominent location throughout episode one.

Stadtpark

The iconic Kursalon restaurant appears in the background of a scene in episode one.

The restaurant has been around since 1867 and is well known for its connection to Johann Strauss.

A golden statue of the famous figure is seen in the Stadtpark and has been a hugely popular tourist attraction ever since.

Schönbrunn Palace

Opened in the 1700s, Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence of the Habsburg rulers.

The name Schönbrunn translates to "beautiful spring" which derives from the artesian well from which the residents drank water.

Palais Collalto

The show features a scene with view of the Schulhof side of the Palais Collalto.

The building was created around 1671 and was the first of many of the locations Mozart performed with his sister when he was only six years old.

What is Vienna Blood about?

Set in 1900s, the story reveals the life of Max Lieberman – a junior doctor with an interest in the work of Dr Sigmund Freud and the psychology of murderers band psychopaths.

Max convinces the Viennese police to allow him observe their work which leads him to solve crimes alongside Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt.

The drama is based on the first three novels in a series called Vienna by Frank Tallis. 

The show was also named on The Sun's list of 100 best shows on iPlayer in 2021.
