A troubling new student and an old face is back as Waterloo Road returns

Its the start of a new term at Waterloo Road and there is as much drama as ever as it returns to BBC One tonight (May 16).

Things get off to a rocky start for new boy Myles (Osian Morgan) when he immediately picks a fight with Dwayne Jackson (Thapelo Ray).

Elsewhere, tensions are high as students reel from the events of last term, and headteacher Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin) narrowly avoids another riot.

As the school hosts a students and police sports event, Myles continues to goad Dwayne, but there’s only so much he can take before he snaps.

With Kim reeling from one truanting pupil, she is at her wits end when she learns another has gone missing, the last thing she expects to see is an old face from the past.

Will Andrew Treneman (Jamie Glover) be able to build bridges and get Kim to put the past behind her?

Kim and Andrew have a complicated history, and he left a sour taste in her mouth when he left for Rwanda without a word.

Alongside Angela Griffin and Jamie Glover, there are numerous other favourites reprising their roles in the new series, including Adam Thomas as pupil turned caretaker Donte Charles, and former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh as Nikki Walters.

This series will see romances blossom and secrets exposed, among students and teachers alike.

The first episode of Waterloo Road series 12 airs tonight, May 16, at 8pm on BBC One, with the rest of the series airing weekly.

However, for those of us eager beavers who want to binge it all at once, the full series, and the eleven previous ones, are all available on BBC iPlayer now.

Waterloo Road airs these scenes on Tuesday May 16 at 8pm on BBC One.
