BRITNEY Spears' ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib feared the pop icon would die during the height of her troubles in 2007 and 2008.
The paparazzo has told how the Toxic hitmaker wouldn't sleep for days and said Britney was reliant on prescription drug Adderall.
The amphetamine is often used to treat sleep disorders to help a person stay awake in the day as well as by those who suffer from ADHD.
Speaking for the first time in over a decade, Adnan, 49, says in new Netflix documentary Britney Vs Spears: "It was a very simple, very easy relationship, but between her fans and everybody else, it was like I was the bad guy.
"There were nights where she was up and I had to stay up with her. And it's hard to stay up for three days. It's hard.
"But you have that fear, and it's a very real fear, that if anything happens to her they're just going to blame you. It is so much easier to blame you.
"She was taking Adderall. I'm sure millions of people are taking Adderall but they become volatile and deadly when you're going through a child custody case.
"What was apparent during that time is that she never had one person she could trust, not mum, dad, friends or sister. Nobody.
"That is a very scary and dark place to be."
At the time Britney was fighting for custody of her children Sean Preston and Jayden James as her two year marriage to back-up dancer Kevin Federline broke down.
"There's other people that tried to help. They paid a heavy price," Adnan adds during the explosive doc which focuses on her 13 year long battle to break out of a conservatorship controlled by her father Jamie Spears.
Adnan continued: "A lot of people argued that she was crazy, right? And I f****** hate that word.
"Would you say she was 'upset' 'angry', 'hurt'… I chose those before I chose crazy."
Netflix's doc comes hot on the heels of two New York Times documentaries – Framing Britney Spears and Controlling Britney Spears as well as a BBC special earlier this year.
On Wednesday, Los Angeles court will rule if both Jamie Spears will be removed as her conservator as well as on the wider issue that the conservatorship should be totally dissolved.
