Coronation Street’s Maria star needed ‘medical assistance’ on new show

Corrie’s Samia Longchambon teases upcoming storylines

Coronation Street’s Samia Longchambon revealed she suffered an unfortunate incident on Cooking With the Stars which resulted in her needing medical attention.

Ahead of the ITV series returning to screens on July 4, the actress was asked if there have been any disasters while filming.

She said: “There was a disaster in training actually when I burnt all my fingers and my thumb.

“It was a really stupid mistake, I was taking a pan out of the oven and Jean-Christophe had told me to put a tea towel over the panhandle which I did.

“But, I also forgot the lid had also been in the oven.

“With my other hand, I took the lid off and burnt all my fingers and thumb and had to get medical assistance but I’m fine now.”

Samia is best known for her role as Maria Connor in Coronation Street, who she has played for over 20 years, although she’s taken time away from Weatherfield to take part in the cooking show.

The 40-year-old will be joining the likes of Jason Watkins, Chris Eubank, Joanna Page and Peter Andre.

Also competing in the third series will be Matt Willis, Claire Richards and Love Island star Indiyah Polack.

When asked why she wants to take part in the competition, Samia commented: ”I’ve wanted to do this show for a long time because I love cooking.

“I’m a family cook, I cook for my kids and my husband and apart from in the summer when you have barbecues, I don’t really cook for a lot of people.

“I tend to do the same things for the family. I wanted to broaden my repertoire.”

Throughout the series, ITV viewers will watch the eight stars be guided by their chef mentors as they try to create the winning dish in a series of intense Cooking Battles.

The loser of each battle will then take part in the cook-off to fight for their spot in the competition as they’re tasked with creating a dish they’ve never seen before.

As the judges blind taste each dish, it’s possible the losing celebrity could be sent home by their own mentor.

With presenters Emma Willis and Tom Allen returning as hosts of the show, it’s time to see who will follow in Dr. Ranj Singh’s footsteps and win the show.
