Dancing on Ice champ Sonny Jay said he would have to "turn down" offers to skate on the ITV show again as he's too scared of falling "ar** over t** on the ice rink.

The Capital FM radio star was thrilled to be crowned the victor of the hit ITV skating show last year alongside his pro partner Angela Egan.

However, Sonny admitted he's now too frightened to skate on the TV ice rink again as he hasn't been ice skating since winning the show.

It comes ahead of the DOI final which kicks off on Sunday (March 26) at 7pm on ITV and ITV Hub – which will see finalists Regan Gascoigne, Kimberly Wyatt and Brendan Cole battle it out for the coveted trophy.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star ahead of the final, Sonny opened up about winning the show, why he's ruling out an ice rink return, and which star he's backing to win this year.

When asked what advice he'd give to Regan, Kimberley and Brendan ahead of the final, Sonny said he was "probably the last person" to be able to dish out advice to the pro dancers and felt lucky he didn't have to compete against them on his series.

He said: "To be honest I’m probably the last person to give any professional dancer to give any advice. I tell you, I’m so lucky I was on it last year and not up against any of them. They’re all unreal."

However, he did suggest they should keep up their ice skating after the show as he was "gutted" about not revisiting the ice rink since winning.

Sonny went on: "The only thing I would say. Not advice for the final just coming out of the show is just keep up the skating because it’s such a good skill to learn and I haven’t been since and I’m gutted about it. And now I feel like because I’ve left it so long, I’m now scared of going back on the ice.”

On whether he'd ever do a reunion show, Sonny confessed he'd currently turn down an offer to skate on the TV rink out of fear he'd embarrass himself on the ice.

He'd already been pondering the idea as he'll be sitting in the audience at Sunday's final – but insisted him returning to the rink would be a "bad idea" for the show.

He said: "Dude, I’m going on Sunday, right, and in the back of my head I was going to turn it down if they asked me to go on the ice because I was literally just like ‘I would be the only winner to go back on and fall ‘ar** over t**.

He added: "It wouldn’t be good for the show, I tell you!"

Chatting about the finalists, Sonny revealed he wants Regan to win the show as he's "won over the hearts" of the nation – but it seems Strictly legend Brendan could also be in with a chance.

However, he was quick to praise all three, including Pussycat Dolls star Kimberley as all three are "amazing" dancers.

Sonny said: "For the first time in a long time on the show it’s very hard to tell who’s gonna win. They’re all very very good professional dancers individually and forget being on ice. Like off ice they’re amazing.

"And I actually find it incredible how they’ve all managed to be so good on the ice because that’s quite an art, you know? Obviously James Jordan’s done it and he’s Strictly. So you’d think Brendan Cole could potentially win it but I think Regan has won over the hearts of a lot of people. And I think he out of most people has surprised everyone.

"Because I’ve genuinely learned a lot about him over the whole series. In terms of like he’s had that journey of people didn't know who he was. They knew who his dad was, but I think a lot of people now know he’s a professional dancer and he’s very good at what he does.

The radio star continued: "I think in terms of a story on a show like that I think he has won over a lot of people so I think he could actually win."

Later on, Sonny said he hoped Regan would win given how hard it is to go on the show as somebody relatively unknown to the public, just like he was on last year's series.

The broadcaster also admitted he never thought he'd win DOI given his stiff competition.

Sonny added: "That was the one thing was always in the back of my head was ‘I’m not going to win this’. I’m up against Jason Donovan, Denise Van Outen, Myleene Klass, all these people you know the names of and you know what they do and stuff.

"I think it’s so hard for someone who is unknown like my going on that show to just be you on air and for people to get to know you. So that’s why I do hope he [Regan] wins".

Dancing on Ice final airs on Sunday, March 27 on ITV and ITVHub at 7pm
